Micro-Epsilon Releases New Software for scanCONTROL Laser Scanners

Precision sensor manufacturer Micro-Epsilon has released a new version of its Configuration Tools software for the company’s scanCONTROL series of laser scanners.

scanCONTROL Configuration Tools

The new version, scanCONTROL Configuration Tools v3.0, enables users to quickly and easily configure their laser scanner via a Windows PC or laptop. As well as improving the user interface, this latest version of the software also includes optimised measuring functions such as new profile analysis features and new measurement value calculations.

The scanCONTROL sensors of the SMART series provide users with all the functionality of the software, including data logging of live measurements and sensor output configurations. The controller stores all settings, allowing the sensors to function in standalone mode without using a PC. scanCONTROL sensors from the COMPACT and High-Speed series can also be operated using scanCONTROL Configuration Tools. Here, the software simulates the evaluation based on the live or offline profile of the connected sensor.

The scanCONTROL SMART range of laser scanners includes the scanCONTROL 2710 and 2810 series. These models have been pre-programmed for solving basic measurement tasks. The focus here is on a special measured value (e.g. width and height of a gap) derived from an evaluated profile. SMART sensors are configured for this task using software and operate in standalone mode. The 2710 (compact) and 2810 (fast and precise) series are available. Pre-programmed measurement applications include, for example, the recognition and tracking of angles, steps and positions, as well as the detection of adhesive beads, weld seams or grooves with dynamic tracking.

The scanCONTROL Compact range comprises laser scanners of the scanCONTROL 2700 series. These are used as data supplier for the customer’s own integration, i.e. they generate a profile of calibrated points and transfer this profile to the respective application software. The models in the 2700 series do not require an additional controller. The profile data is transferred using FireWire or Ethernet interface.

The scanCONTROL High-Speed range comprises laser scanners of the scanCONTROL 2750 and 2800 series. These sensors are used as fast data suppliers for the customer’s own integration, i.e. they generate a profile of calibrated points and transfer this profile data to the customer’s own application software. However, the speed of the profile measurement does not only play a role in the case of high target speeds (e.g. strip material); the high data rate also provides decisive benefits for the scanning of surfaces. Profile transfer to the application software is carried out using FireWire or Ethernet (2750).
