Gas detection at world famous industrial gas manufacturer Messer, Croatia

Gas detectors from MSR-Electronic monitor various gases in the production and distribution of industrial gases. Messer Croatia Plin d.o.o., located in Zapresic near Zagreb, is an industrial gas manufacturer and part of the world's largest family-run industrial gas specialist Messer Group, headquartered in Germany.

Messer Croatia Plin d.o.o. runs modern production and bottling plants. Messer also has air separation systems, stores and transports gases in tanks or cylinders and produces gases at the point of use. Gas centres and filling stations ensure an individual gas supply throughout Croatia.

Gas production ranges from oxygen, acetylene, nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide, hydrogen as well as medical gases, cutting and welding gases, various gas mixtures to other industrial gases. Maximum safety is required in the production of these toxic and combustible gases.

The increased concentration of a gas or a lack of oxygen can lead to poisoning and/or explosions. Fixed gas warning systems from MSR-Electronic monitor the production processes as well as the gas storage room and the filling plant. If a limit value is reached, the gas warning system alerts with acoustic and visual signals in order to protect people and equipment in good time. The alerting of the control centre, as well as evacuation and rescue measures, take place in parallel.

Cooperation with Messer Croatia Plin d.o.o. successful over several years

The cooperation with Messer began back in 2017, when the first hydrogen and ethylene gas monitoring system was installed. Currently, an existing gas warning system has been equipped with additional oxygen (O2) and hydrogen (H2) sensors and methane gas monitoring has been ensured in the ATEX area. Digital-Gas-Controller DGC-06 takes over the central control and monitoring of the toxic and combustible gas concentrations.

MSR-Electronic solution for reliable gas detection

Digital gas sensors (type SC2) are used for O2 and H2 gas measurement, and ATEX-certified gas sensors for the hazardous, explosive area of methane gas detection.

The heart of the system is the Digital-Gas-Controller DGC-06

The DGC-06 controller from MSR evaluates the measured values of the gas sensors. It is used in gas measurement technology for monitoring and warning of toxic and explosive gases and vapours as well as of Freon refrigerants. Numerous adjustable parameters and set-points permit individual adaptation to many applications. This means that the controller also fulfils the functions of monitoring carbon monoxide (CO) in garages, tunnels and loading zones, for example, and is compliant with EN 50545-1.

The Digital-Gas-Controller DGC-06 has been developed for large systems or even for extensive connections. Everything is possible, from complex multi-storey car parks to access permissions that are switched by gas alarm.

The Gas-Controller series DGC-06 can monitor and manage up to 128 gas sensors, 96 digital and/or 32 analog (4–20 mA) sensors. 4 free adjustable alarm thresholds are provided per sensor. For the alarm messages the controller system offers up to 128 relays with potential-free change-over contact and up to 16 analog outputs with 4–20 mA signal.

The entire support and installation of the MSR gas warning system in the plant of the industrial gas manufacturer Messer at the Zapresic site was carried out by the MSR partner Aurel d.o.o., Zagreb.
