Weapon Sensors Can Identify Targets Even in Darkness

Rheinmetall Canada, which manufactures products for the Rheinmetall Defense Group, has declared that it will incorporate the uncooled thermal weapon sights developed by BAE Systems into the Canadian Army’s Close Area Suppression Weapon System (CASW).

The device designed by BAE has a fire control system in the 40mm grenade launcher. The system from BAE can target objects even in darkness and so improve the army’s existing competence and skills. The company currently supplies the device to eight nations including the US Army and its allied forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The light, medium and heavy thermal weapon sights deploy the MicroIR uncooled infrared sensor for high quality infrared imagery by passing the need for larger cryogenic cooling tools, which would have consumed more power and cost much more. It has been tested to prove its mettle in harsh rugged conditions.
