General Photonics has released a series of instrumentation solutions required for various polarization-based testing in 40/100 Gbps coherent detection systems. The latest additions include the PDLPro (PDLE-101) and an upgraded version of the PMDPro (PMD-1000). Additionally,
General Photonics has also launched the PolaMight (MPC-101), the PolaWise (PSGA-101-A), the PolaFlex (PSY-101), the PolaDetect (POD-101D) and the PolaMIX (PCD-104).
The PDLPro is a PDL Emulator/Source, which ensures that coherent detection systems and high-speed fiber optic transceivers adhere to the PDL tolerance standards. The PDLE-101 enables performance calculation of the PDL tolerance, tracking recovery time and speed of the PDL mitigation algorithm as well as code development for PDL compensation. It can also be used for PDL emulation and for testing the system PDL response. It is capable of creating individual PDL values between 0 to 20 dB and offers a 0.1 dB resolution for PDL tolerance testing.
The PMDPro is a PMD source that can produce first order PMD up to 180ps and second order PMD up to 8100ps2. Greater coverage area facilitates both PMD response mapping and tolerance testing of specific zones in the PMD space. Its features also include an expanded polarization optimization capability for least favorable PMD effect; PMD trace scans for tracking speed testing and PMD statistical emulation. The upgraded control mode allows the user to access any point in the PMD space by indicating the SOPMD and DGD, from the control program or the front panel.
The upgraded version of the PMDPro is an essential tool for PMD measurement and emulation, PMD compensation, combining large range, long-term monitoring, various PMD pattern generation capabilities, and both manual and automatic polarization control.
The PolaMight is a polarization controller, while the PolaDetect is a high speed in-line polarimeter. The PolaFlex combines the functions of both. The PolaWise allows for accurate measurement for both PMD and PDL, while the PolaMIX is a polarization scrambler that can randomize polarization states using an all-fiber technology.
