Econolite has announced that the company, along with its partners Century Business Horizons (CBH), NYC DOT, Transcore and KLD Associates, has received the Outstanding ITS Project of the Year award from the Intelligent Transportation Society of New York (ITS-NY) during the annual conference. CBH and Econolite were recognized for Remote Traffic Microwave Sensor (RTMS) non-intrusive radar detection systems, which are utilized in the “Midtown in Motion” project.
Technology-based project for traffic congestion relief, Midtown in Motion addresses 110-square blocks starting from Second Avenue to Sixth Avenue and also from 42nd Street to 57th Street of Midtown Manhattan. This project includes a group of traffic monitoring equipment consisting of Econolite’s 100 RTMS detection systems for monitoring and measuring traffic volumes, speed and occupancy at multiple mid-block locations.
Al Shapiro, President of CBH, stated that the new system assists traffic engineers in identifying traffic congestion and traffic incidents in real time and make appropriate adjustments in signal timing from the traffic management center.
Mike Ouellette, VP of RTMS Sales in Econolite, said that the company is honored to get this important award from ITS-NY, and the recognition of RTMS in the advancing project is a confirmation of exceptional capabilities of respective ground detection. The company is excited about continuing RTMS’ support in advanced transportation management efforts in New York for relieving traffic congestion.
RTMS, a roadside radar detection technology, can be installed easily without any lane closures or traffic disruptions. It integrates high-resolution radar and includes options for serial and wireless communications, contact closures, and Ethernet communications with IP cameras. The detection station of RTMS is sleek, free of cabinet and easy to integrate with traffic management systems such as comprehensive ITS programs. RTMS G4 provides easy Bluetooth setup and additional data of transportation management for up to 12 lanes.
