TRX NEON System Locates, Maps and Tracks Personnel in GPS-Denied Locations

TRX Systems, a developer of infrastructure-free tracking systems for indoor locations and in places that do not have GPS access, has demonstrated its new personnel location system, NEON, at the 2012 Joint Navigation Conference.

Neon Indoor Location System

The NEON system can be used to locate, track and map personnel when they are indoors and outdoors. The system utilizes time of flight ranging, mapping algorithms and sensor fusion to provide real-time accurate location of the personnel. It does not require any networked infrastructure.

The NEON indoor location system shows the location of the personnel in two-dimensional and three-dimensional format in real-time. The status and location of the personnel are logged and their activities can be reviewed later for study. The system is portable and can be rapidly deployed. It can render the building and can configure the on-scene map quickly.

Personnel have to wear the NEON tracking units, and their location when they perform different activities such as crawling, walking and moving in elevators or stairs, can be tracked. Information about the real-time location and status is sent to the NEON Command Software through radio, Wi-Fi or cellular networks.

The indoor location market segment utilizes RF and motion sensing technologies to supplement fixed reference technologies such as Wi-Fi and GPS in urban areas and buildings. Information is collected from various sources such as magnetic, time, pressure, and MEMS inertial RF ranging, and combined to determine the personnel location. The information derived by the system is displayed on a graphical user interface. More fixed-position nodes can be added to improve the navigation precision. These sensors are optional and can be easily deployed within a short period of time.
