Please give an overview to your company.
We are Review Display Systems. We're based down in Westerham, Kent, and have been in business for 35 years now. We started as a distributor for industrial single board computers and industrial TFT panels, and now we have branched out for the past 20 years or so as system integrators.
What we found is that we were selling great products that can be put together. The IoT evolved and that made us realize – we’re making all of these wonderful things that can be put together, so why not introduce some sensors to connect them all!
What are you highlighting at the IoT Tech Expo?
We’re highlighting SensConnect, our IoT solution.
So many different sectors, higher industrial, medical etc, have systems where there is a sensor involved. What we specialize in is helping create the custom hardware, to pull that data out of the sensor and transmit that wirelessly, or wired, however you want to do it.
We've got experience with LoRa, 4G, WiFi etc, and we use this to integrate everything together into our customizable database platform. So, if you have a platform for analysing your data, what we here do is basically take your sensor data and get it through to the cloud. That's what we specialize in. We do as much or as little of that spectrum you need. Most companies specialize in just hardware, just software or communications only, whereas we can provide the whole solution.
What makes your solutions unique?
I’d say that it was being able to be a one stop shop for somebody who can actually understand each point in the chain. It makes sense to work with 1 company who can provide everything, rather than multiple companies for different stages. It is rare to find one place that does that, and that’s why you need to talk to us.
What are the applications of your products?
A few of our capabilities are demonstrated in the signs on top of a taxi. First of all, we can make this location responsive – so depending on where the taxi is, it will display a suitable ad. For example, if you're in the theatre district, it can display information about 'Mamma Mia' or 'The Lion King', whereas in the financial district, you’ll see bank ads.
We’ve also incorporated temperature sensors into is, because the panel’s on the roof of a black cab, it can get very hot. The heat sensors allow it to self-regulate, turning the fans on if it’s getting hot. Additionally, if it's a bright day, the sensors mean that the system turns the brightness up on the screens so you can see the ads. It can report that data back over 3G, to a cloud system.
What do you hope to gain from being at the IoT Tech Expo?
We want to see what ideas are out there as we’re about facilitating a complete solution. At these kinds of events you get to talk to people who say, "I've got this thing and I want to make it work.", and so here we’ve been able to talk to people and discuss ideas and give them a bit of guidance in the hope that they'll come back and have a chat with us again later.
