Fully Certified for Hazardous Areas
The iWAP XN3 is a comprehensive solution with all the certifications required for installation in IECEx, ATEX, and North American hazardous areas. There is no need for additional certification, regardless of the wireless technology selected by the users.
Users’ Choice of Wireless Technology
The iWAP XN3 is a genuinely versatile system that allows users to choose whichever wireless technology they prefer from any vendor. The wireless technologies include LTE routers, Wi-Fi access points, UHF RFID readers, and IoT gateways with ISA100, WiHART, or LoRa technology.
Use Standard, Non-Certified Antennas
The iWAP XN3 is powered by Extronics’ state-of-the-art iSOLATE technology, which offers intrinsically safe RF outputs with standard N-type connectors. This means that users can use non-certified simple apparatus antennas, thus offering them ideal performance, more choices and lower expenditure.

Users can easily connect or disconnect antennas manually, without the need for exclusive tools. There is no need for the unit to be powered down or to obtain a hot work permit.
If users do not know what simple apparatus antennas are, Extronics offers assistance. Each antenna in the Extronics iANT2xx range has been assessed by our engineers and fulfills all the requirements of a simple apparatus.
Effective Use of Space
The internal chassis of the iWAP XN3 system incorporates lots of functionality into a small space. It comes in four standard sizes to offer users the most compact solution that fulfills their technical requirements. Extronics engineers offer support by evaluating the wireless technology chosen by users, alongside their operational needs, to suggest the most effective size for their application.
OEM customers and customers who require specific usage instances that necessitate non-standard sizes can contact Extronics to discuss their requirements.
Easy Installation and Low Maintenance
With a weight of about 20 kg (based on the internal wireless technology chosen by users), the iWAP XN3 system is lightweight and easy to maneuver in different locations. The iWAP XN3 system includes built-in mounting flanges, enabling it to be easily installed on flat surfaces. The system also comes with a pole mount bracket.

The external Ex ec junction box of the iWAP XN3 system ensures practicality, thereby enabling the use of simple Ex e or NPT glands. It includes all the connectors users will require for their chosen specification, for example, mains power, Ethernet RJ45 terminals, fiber options, and console ports.
The enclosure of the system iWAP XN3 features high integrity and is tightly sealed with very little atmospheric movement. This avoids the need to perform regular nR maintenance testing.
Thermally Engineered
The iWAP XN3 system has an innovative extruded body featuring fins that serve as heat sinks. This helps reduce the internal temperature of the enclosure, while the white epoxy powder coating also reduces the effect of solar loading when the enclosure is placed in direct sunlight. All these features make the iWAP XN3 an ideal way to deploy wireless technologies in high ambient temperatures.

Highly Rugged
Built with marine-grade aluminum and a durable epoxy powder coating finish, the iWAP XN3 has been designed exclusively for outdoor installation in hazardous industrial environments. The system also comes with IP66 and NEMA 4 certification, thus enduring exposure to the elements.
Example Applications
Communications
More tablets and smartphones are now available with certification for hazardous areas, thus enabling mobile workers to stay in touch. The iWAP XN3 system is an economical means to install a Wi-Fi or LTE network across the user’s site, thus enabling such smart devices to connect to one another for real-time communications.

The iWAP XN3 system enables workers to access information on how to carry out tasks accurately, more easily record operational data, and request support from experts without leaving their post.
Worker Safety
The safety of workers is of utmost importance in a hazardous process industry environment like an oil rig. The iWAP XN3 system can be employed to install the backbone infrastructure for a real-time location system (RTLS) that enables workers to seek help during emergencies, be mustered accurately and quickly in an evacuation, and be located across the site for better accountability and security.

Asset Location
For assets management, RTLS based on wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi can also be used. An industrial site includes thousands of moving tools and parts.

In case a vital component goes missing mid-manufacturing order, it leads to a serious hold up in the process, which in turn causes a knock-on effect, rendering the entire system inefficient. The ability to accurately, easily locate assets increases productivity and minimizes the search times.
Regulatory Compliance
In highly regulated process industries like pharmaceutical manufacturing, users can use a wireless network to develop a full digital audit trail. The risk of data loss and human error can be avoided when workers carry handheld smart devices and communicate through the wireless network.

Predictive Maintenance
The iWAP XN3 system can be used to access trapped data. Data related to operational activity—for example, vibration readings on pumps in a refinery—is collected by sensors in remote outposts. Rather than manually checking the readings every month, users can use the iWAP XN3 system.

With an in-built technology, such as a LoRa gateway, users can view the data swiftly and minimize the manpower required to access information, enabling users to perform predictive maintenance more efficiently and effectively.
