Kyocera’s Platinum-Free Soot-Sensing Element Withstands Temperatures Above 500°C

Kyocera Corporation (President: Goro Yamaguchi) today announced that it has developed a sensing element to help monitor soot filters in diesel-engine vehicles — the first ever*1 to withstand operating temperatures above 500°C without the use of platinum. Awarded in the Green Innovation*2 category at the CEATEC JAPAN 2015 tradeshow, the new product utilizes a new base-metal alloy to withstand higher temperatures while reducing production costs and helping to improve air pollution from engine emissions.

General Dynamics Awards Smiths Detection £6 Million Contract for Chemical Agent Detectors

Smiths Detection has been awarded a contract worth almost £6 million from General Dynamics UK to supply chemical agent detectors for the AJAX Programme. Production of up to 589 vehicles is planned under the UK MOD programme, with deliveries scheduled to start in 2017.

Alliance to Create de facto Standard for Odor Analysis and Sensor Systems Employing Membrane-Type Surface Stress Sensor

Six organizations including NIMS, Kyocera, Osaka University, NEC, Sumitomo Seika and NanoWorld jointly launched the MSS Alliance on September 25, 2015, with the purpose of establishing a de facto standard for odor analysis and sensor systems employing an ultra-small sensor element called the Membrane-type Surface stress Sensor (MSS). This initiative is intended to accelerate practical use and popularization of such systems.
