Sequans Communications S.A. announced that D-Link, a global leader in home, business, and enterprise connectivity solutions, has selected Sequans’ LTE chip technology to power a new industrial IoT modem. The new D-Link device is ideal for machine-to-machine communications for numerous applications such as vending machines, retail kiosks, ATM machines, automated parking meters, and more.
“D-Link has developed an extremely effective M2M connectivity solution that is ideal for many of today’s top IoT applications,” said Craig Miller, Sequans’ VP of worldwide marketing. “Makers of M2M platforms desiring LTE connectivity for their applications will find the D-Link industrial IoT modem to be a versatile, affordable and easy-to-integrate solution.”
The D-Link industrial IoT modem is a ruggedized, low cost 4G LTE modem in a highly-integrated package. It allows for simple yet flexible integration of M2M devices into wide area wireless networks, and it can also serve as a development platform for host device integrators. The device includes a built in connection manager, and USB and Ethernet ports for quick, plug-and-play installation into most host platforms. It has been designed for use on a major North American operator’s LTE network.
“Businesses rely increasingly on real-time data to improve their logistical efficiency and customer service, for example in local governments providing real-time passenger information at bus stops,” said GK Lee, vice president, Mobile Service Providers Business Unit, D-Link Corporation. “The technology behind this, M2M, is part of D-Link’s massive LTE development for IoT applications in industrial automation, logistics, and smart cities, and we’ve invested vast technical experience and cloud knowledge in its research. To serve our customers, we expect nothing but the best from our suppliers and Sequans was chosen for its excellent value and performance.”
The D-Link Industrial IoT Modem is powered by Sequans’ Colibri LTE Platform, a Cat 4,150 Mbps, IoT-optimized chipset solution. Colibri comprises baseband and RF chips, an integrated IoT applications processor running Sequans’ carrier-proven LTE protocol stack, an IMS client, and a comprehensive software package for over-the-air device management and packet routing.
