Siemens Withdraws from the Optical Safety Sensor Market

Siemens has confirmed that it is opting out or retreating from the optical safety sensor market, from the first of October 2010.

Simatic FS sensors

The brand Simatic FS sensors and its equivalent products would be sold by Leuze electronic, a German company as Leuze versions. Leuze electronic is the leader in the field of optical sensors, used in factory automation. They would straightforwardly handle all the commitments associated with prior Siemens’ operations, as far as support, repairs and guarantee issues are concerned. They have hosted a website for converting Siemens MLFB order numbers to Leuze order numbers, and have also provided a technical Hotline for the satisfaction of the customers.

Siemens has also declared that it would stop sales of Simatic FS100 safety strips from October 1st, but would take care of inquiries regarding spare parts. Some time during the year, Siemens had also made another decision, to opt out from one more sensing area i.e., the proximity sensor systems, when it traded with a German manufacturing concern producing sensors, namely the Pepperl+Fuchs.
