New Honeywell Sensors Help Reduce Energy Costs and Support Latest Refrigerant Technology

Pressure transducers offer accurate pressure monitoring for HVAC, refrigeration, air compressor, pump and valve systems.

Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced it has expanded its line of pressure monitoring sensors designed to minimize the total cost of pressure management for HVAC and refrigeration systems.

Honeywell’s PX3 series heavy duty pressure transducers convert pressure into an analog electrical signal. The cost-effective sensors feature a brass housing and can support multiple configurations to help end-users minimize implementation and production costs.

Building owners and operators are facing more pressure to optimize efficiency for their HVAC and refrigeration systems and incorporate new refrigerants to meet environmental standards. Our new line of PX3 pressure transducers feature low-current consumption to help reduce system energy costs, while also enhancing product life when used in battery-driven systems.

The new line of pressure transducers are compatible with many next-generation, low-global-warming-potential (GWP) refrigerants, including Honeywell’s Solstice® N40. As the lowest-GWP, nonflammable, refrigerant alternative to R-404A and R-22 available today, Solstice N40 is widely requested by companies committed to sustainable development.

It has a GWP that is 68 percent lower than the current, most commonly used supermarket refrigerant, R-404A. In supermarket trials conducted in the U.S. and Europe, Solstice N40 demonstrated three percent lower energy consumption in low-temperature applications, and five to 16 percent lower energy consumption in medium-temperature applications compared to R-404A.

The new line expands the sensors’ pressure range to 1 bar to 50 bar (15 psi to 700 psi). In addition the PX3 series also offers:

  • Freeze-thaw resistance to frost, which is commonly found in refrigeration systems
  • High electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) radiated immunity to operate consistently in the presence of wireless signals, radio frequency communication and electrical devices
  • Shock and vibration tolerance
  • Wide operating temperature range
  • Durable design with a high surge immunity at ±1000V line to ground per IEC 61000-4-5.
