FM Approvals Ltd. Certifies Senscient’s Gas Detectors

FM Approvals Ltd. has certified Senscient with ATEX International Certification for the latter’s new ELDS 2000 Dual Gas Series meant for hydrogen sulfide and methane gas detection and Open Path Gas Detector (OPGD) ELDS 1000 Series meant for methane detection.

Enhanced Laser Diode Spectroscopy

The two gas detectors are ideal for use in potentially explosive environments.

The Enhanced Laser Diode Spectroscopy (ELDS) is a patented technology that addresses problems generally associated with conventional fixed gas detectors through the elimination of routine sensor replacement, false alarms, unreliable readings and re-calibration.

Senscient’s ELDS open path gas detectors provide facility owners with a significant improvement in risk management and facility safety compared with other NDIR-based technology systems as the detectors are three times more sensitive in detecting gases that are flammable.

ELDS is developed in such a way so as to offer enhanced facility safety and reduce risks in petrochemical facilities onshore, offshore platforms, refineries and FPSOs. During the year 2010, Sensicient intends to continue introducing ELDS products into other industries as well. This ATEX certification confirms that Senscient ELDS Series 2000 and 1000 open path gas detectors can detect the given target gas over a length of 5 – 40 m and also that it can set off digital or analogue output signals to a remote PLC .

The VP and CMSO of Senscient Jean Berthold stated that the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC certification means that the company meets the standards based on performance for hazardous area compliant facility and product in Europe, Canada and the U.S.
