Oridion has appointed Masimo as its non-exclusive distributor for its portable bedside capnography monitors, known as the Oridion Capnostream20, for Europe, Canada, and the North America.
Masimo has pioneered the development of the Measure-Through Motion and Low Perfusion pulse oximetry and the Pulse CO-Oximetry products. The Patient SafetyNet system from Masimo is the first remote monitoring and clinician notification system to be made available with the Capnostream20, and the system features the latest Smart Capnography innovation, known as the Integrated Pulmonary Index (IPI). IPI facilitates tracking and trending the rate of respiration in real time and the Oridion etCO2, along with the pulse rate and Masimo SET SpO2, for a total assessment of the ventilatory and oxygenation status of the patient.
Oridion Capnography’s President, Gerry Feldman, remarked that his company is happy to tie up with Masimo for strengthening the Capnostream20 monitors’ distribution along with the Patient SafetyNet System of Masimo. He added that the combination also provides additional safety related to remote monitoring process, along with automated clinical notification involving drastic changes in the status of patients. Feldman added that the collaboration between the two premier companies in the industry will optimize options for monitoring.
The collaboration between these two gold-standard companies has ensured complete distribution capabilities, besides the two-way wireless and connectivity technologies which were announced between the Patient SafetyNet System of Masimo and the Oridion Capnostream20 during August 2009. The collaboration enables hospitals to buy and install these two devices, which are complementary in nature, from Masimo directly. The direct purchase will help these hospitals to achieve the maximum patient care level along with the most enhanced continual monitoring and patient surveillance system in the industry.
The Microstream capnography system from Oridion integrates the most dependable and accurate sidestream etCO2/respiration rate measurements solution in the industry with the Smart Capnography that incorporates the IPI and the SARA alarm management systems in one user-friendly, easy-to-follow index simplifying assessment related to patient ventilation status. Masimo’s SET offers the most dependable and accurate pulse oximetry technology that has proved itself clinically in more than 100 objective and independent studies, for offering the most reliable pulse rate readings and alarms and the dependable SpO2. The Oridion Smart Capnography and the Masimo SET Pulse Oximetry offer better algorithm technologies for reducing alarms, provide patient caregivers with useful decision support tools, and enhanced workflow.
Masimo’s CEO and Founder Joe E. Kiani said that his company is happy to live up to its reputation in the industry by increasing the availability of crucial sign parameters as well as multi-parameter patient monitoring gadgets from third parties for providing wireless connectivity in real-time basis to the Masimo Patient SafteyNet. Kiani added that the tie up enables both Masimo and Oridion to package two best-in-breed, established systems, namely, Capnostream20 monitors from Orideon and SET Patient SafetyNet of Masimo, for healthcare and hospital facilities in Europe, Canada, and the U.S., thereby providing device options and versatility which are required by modern-day healthcare providers for integrating with patient monitoring solutions.
