Micron Optics Inc, a leader in the field of innovative devices for fiber optic sensors and laser imaging systems, introduced a new OEM module that would be used to power the latest National Instruments (NI) PXIe-4844 optical sensor interrogation.
This product merges Micron Optics’ optical sensing technology with the PXIe platform, giving LabVIEW users an instrument which would take care of many applications where normally conventional sensors do not make the grade.
FBG sensors by Micron Optics are used mainly to measure attributes, such as displacement, strain, acceleration and temperature in environments which are prone to radiation, corrosion, electro-magnetic interference, lightning and explosive elements. FBG sensors are also the preference for weight-sensitive, high strain-range and high sensor-count applications.
According to Brian Betts, NI’s Senior Group Manager for Data Acquisition, there is a heightened demand for optical sensing technology from the clients, especially in industries taking care of transportation monitoring, transmission, energy products and structural health monitoring. This amalgam of optoelectronics and PXI with LabVIEW software has attributed to enhanced performance and flexibility levels.
Jeff Miller, CEO, Micron Optics confirms that with FGB sensors being the latest technological novelty, this NI product is a step up innovative product, which would render a speedier market approval of optical sensing, ultimately leading to more satisfied customers
