World's First Clear Label Sensor

Lion Precision, maker of the world’s first clear label sensor, has released its newest label sensor, the LRD8200. The new sensor uses a different technology that works equally well with all label and liner materials and artwork: paper, plastic, foil, hotstamp, clear, opaque or translucent.

The design goal of the LRD8200 was not only label versatility, but also ease of use. According to Mark Kretschmar, part of the LRD8200 development team, “Many sensors use a cryptic code of flashing light patterns and buttons that must be held down for different amounts of time to achieve different setup conditions. It’s no wonder people complain to us that machine operator’s can’t correctly adjust the sensors.” The LRD8200 has a unique bar graph indicator that makes the setup clear to the operator. The Triple-Check Verification system allows the user to simply glance at the display for verification; if the three Triple-Check lights are on, the sensor is adjusted correctly.

Push-button adjustments control the sensor. The buttons have an activation force of only 250 grams so they are easy to press. The buttons are overlayed with long-life polyester so they will not wear or crack for over 1 million operations, and the buttons are clearly marked with their function, and the bar-graph display makes it clear how to adjust it. Kretschmar added, “We chose easy manual adjustment over ‘teach’ type adjustment because most of the people we spoke to wanted to retain some control over sensor operation. The problem with automatic ‘teach’ setup is that if it doesn’t work, you are left with no options, when often a simple adjustment tweak would allow the sensor to work properly.”

The LRD8200 rounds out the Lion Precision label sensor line with a push-button adjustable sensor with a wider fork for more easily sensing booklets and other thick webs, and it is compatible with all label materials. The sensor works equally well for double-sheet and splice detection also.
