The developers of Snort and intelligent cybersecurity solutions provider Sourcefire, Inc. has expanded its Sourcefire 3D System offering by supporting the Xen 3.4.2 and 3.3.2 virtualization platforms.
Presently, by extending its support to VMware and Xen virtual environments, the company increases the capabilities for intrusion prevention to these two environments.
Currently, the Virtual Defense Centre and Virtual 3D Sensor of Sourcefire offer Xen virtual environments with each of the features that were available for VMware virtual environments. Virtual 3D Sensors can be used for tracking traffic between multiple VMware or Xen virtual machines, even as traffic going out and into a virtual environment can be tracked by deploying Sourcefire 3D Sensors. The support offered by the company to both VMware and Xen environments makes it convenient to manage and use virtual sensors at remote locations, which have limited physical resources, including branch offices and retail stores. Companies involved in cloud computing and enterprises can benefit from this support as they require different virtualisation platforms for supporting specific needs.
The SVP of Engineering and Customer Support of Sourcefire Tom Ashoff commented that the support offered by the company to VMware and Xen environments provides protection to both the physical and virtual environments of the customers.
The Virtual 3D Sensor offers concurrent implementation of Sourcefire RNA (real-time network awareness), RUA (real-time user awareness) and IPS functions. Customers can use the Virtual Defense Centre for monitoring up to 25 physical or virtual 3D Sensors. Moreover, there is also the option for using the same Defense Center to monitor both the physical 3D Sensors and the Virtual 3D Sensors.
