CMOSIS and TowerJazz unveil CMV12000 Image Sensor

TowerJazz, a specialty foundry and producer of integrated circuits, and CMOSIS, a producer and distributor of highly efficient CMOS image sensors for professional imaging solutions, have declared the launch of a 12-megapixal image sensor named CMV12000, which is produced using an improved 0.18 µm unique CIS processing technology.

CMOSIS has expanded its portfolio of CMV CMOS image sensors with the launch of the 12-megapixel CMV12000, which is produced in the Fab-2 facility of TowerJazz, located in Migdal Haemek.

The CMV12000 consists of 5.5 x 5.5µm pixels arranged in a matrix with a high resolution of 4096 x 3072, which replicates the form of the APS-C. The sensor provides low noise and ultra sensitivity with a global shutter and frame speed of 300fps. The sensor can be employed in various motion control solutions including motion pictures, traffic and industrial monitoring.

The CMV12000 comes with a 60dB range, which can be extended to 90dB via various operation modes with ultra dynamic ranges. The parasitic light sensitivity of the senor pixels is very low in the ratio of 1:50,000, which increases the efficiency of global shutter speed that in turn permits the sensor to capture ultra fast motion scenes without o image deformation.

The pixel matrix of the CMV12000 merges correlated double sampling (CDS) with global shutter functions, which reduces the level of noise to as low as 13e- and a complete charge of 13,500electrons. CDS also decreases the set pattern noise of the sensor matrix to provide ultra image quality. The on chip a/d converter of the sensor can be functioned at a resolution of 8, 10 or 12bit.
