Hahn-Schickard and Bosch Sensortec form Development Cooperation in the Field of Acoustic Microsystems

The internet of tomorrow will be mobile and audio based. To support the shift in communication from typing and reading to speaking and listening, new technologies are needed that enable innovative audio and voice based consumer applications. This is the goal Hahn-Schickard and Bosch Sensortec have set themselves with their development collaboration for the next-generation of microelectromechanical (MEMS) speakers.

Smaller than conventional speakers, more powerful with lower energy consumption - the novel MEMS microspeakers meet the market requirements of the "Internet of Voice", the voice-controlled Internet, and enable innovative use cases.

About the Development Partners

How well the two development partners complement each other is shown by the completing expertise: Bosch Sensortec is a leading provider of MEMS sensors for consumer electronics and has extensive experience in the development and industrialization of high-volume MEMS products. The application-oriented research institute Hahn-Schickard from Baden-Württemberg, on the other hand, draws on many years of experience in the development of MEMS innovations and their small-scale production with its own state-of-the-art clean room in Villingen-Schwenningen, Germany.

"We are thrilled to be working with a global player like Bosch Sensortec to advance one of the biggest MEMS topics of the future. This cooperation shows once again how much trust the industry has in Hahn-Schickard's competence and expertise," say Alfons Dehé, Hahn-Schickard Institute Director in Villingen-Schwenningen and Georg H. Endress Professor at the University of Freiburg, Germany.

"Research collaborations are a promising approach for the development of innovative technologies," says Dr. Stefan Finkbeiner, CEO of Bosch Sensortec. "The collaboration with Hahn-Schickard allows us to expand our expertise in MEMS microspeakers. This strengthens our market position as a leading manufacturer of sensor solutions for consumer electronics and positions us as a key player for mobile and audio based applications for the Internet of tomorrow."

Bosch Sensortec and Hahn-Schickard have already been working together for several years on various projects. With the current cooperation, Hahn-Schickard will play a key role in the development of acoustic microsystems that beneficially complement Bosch Sensortec's MEMS sensor portfolio for consumer electronics.
