Robonaut 2 (R2) has been developed and is set to be launched into space by integrating it into the space craft called ‘Discovery’ for accomplishing its initial prime task at the International Space Station (ISS).

NASA’s Humanoid Robot

The R2 is a result of a high-tech robotic collaboration between NASA and General Motors that had been initiated in 2007. Various eminent researchers and engineers from  NASA and GM had associatively worked at the Houston-oriented Johnson Space Center to develop this upgraded humanoid robot. The robot is equipped with innovative sensor, control and vision technologies and was configured in order to guide the astronauts on-board the ISS.

The launch of this humanoid robot will be conducted on November 1, 2010.
