Raytheon Wins US Navy Contract for Aegis Weapon System Components

Raytheon announced that it has won a $240 million contract from the US Navy to produce and deliver the Aegis weapons system’s components for the Arleigh Burke class of destroyers. The company will offer manufacturing, engineering, as well as support services for the ship sets of the MK99 Mod 8 Fire Control System and AN/SPY-1D(V) transmitter group.

The Aegis weapon system needs fire control system and radar equipment to track and protect against various threats such as missiles and planes. The company is continuously manufacturing the MK99 Fire Control System and AN/SPY-1 radar transmitters for 30 years, under the Aegis shipbuilding program of the US Navy. At present, these transmitters and fire control systems have been installed in the Arleigh Burke destroyers and the navy’s fleet of Ticonderoga class of cruisers. They have also been installed in the F100-class frigates of Spain, and Kongo-class destroyers of Japan.

For the Aegis program, Raytheon is working at its IDS’ Sensors and Surveillance Center in Sudbury, Massachusetts; at the Integrated Air Defense Center in Andover, Massachusetts, and at the Seapower Capability Center in Portsmouth. The US Navy contract also has options for extra work.
