Sub-Atlantic to Deliver Comanche ROVs for Scientific Applications

Sub-Atlantic has been offered a contract worth £1million to deliver a Comanche ROV solution for performing scientific research.

These unique subsea vehicles will facilitate the fabrication and maintenance of the latest MoLab sea-floor observatory unit at North Germany-based Kiel University’s Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences.

The Comanche ROV christened Phoca will be associating with the prevailing IFM GEOMAR fleet of subsea equipment.

The 3,000m Comanche will match with the Kiel 6000 work class ROV, which is 6,000m rated and functions employing Sub-Atlantic thrusters. It is operative along with an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) called Abyss.

The innovative observatory is an advanced deep sea system that can be utilized world-wide and inspects large square kilometres of the seabed for over many months, collecting chemical, biological and geophysical information for use in various significant scientific schemes employing a sequence of subsea sensing devices and sampling systems.
