Vernier Software & Technology is conducting two-day subject-oriented workshops for scientific instructors of new college and high school institutes.
The new College Institutes of Vernier workshops will provide special focus on practical experiments related to higher education science along with techniques for incorporating probeware in college laboratories. All College Institutes workshops are for two days duration.
The College Physics Institute will conduct a survey of all video and data acquisition tools that are provided by Vernier. The participants will utilize Vernier data-acquisition software that includes customized data-collection modes, performing custom curve fits, setting up calculated columns, and configuring graphs, for understanding basic and enhanced skills. These participants will also learn how the LabQuest is used for video acquisition and analysis.
The Flinn Scientific and the Vernier teams will perform 12 different experiments for 2 days for laboratory instructors during the College Chemistry Institute workshop. These experiments relate to thermodynamics, equilibrium, acid-base reactivity, and kinetics. Besides these, special experiments will also be performed to explore gas chromatography and spectroscopy.
The College Biology Institute workshop participants will perform a range of laboratory exercises that include enzyme kinetics, transpiration, photosynthesis, fluorescence spectroscopy, basic protein biochemistry using Vernier's new SpectroVis Plus Spectrometer/Fluorometer, and cellular respiration. The workshop will present biotechnology subjects in partnership with Bio-Rad Laboratories. Special attention will be given on the method to use the probeware to perform a conduct guided enquiry.
Besides these two-day workshops, Vernier will also offer a hectic program of six-hour practical summer workshops in 14 cities in the U.S. Former or present teachers will head each session in this program and offer practical experience to educators to integrate data-acquisition technology of Vernier into Earth science, physics, middle school science, chemistry, biology, and physical science curricula.
Workshop attendees will utilize LabQuest computers and computers for data collection.
