Tamron’s AF18mm to 270mm F3.5-6.3 Di-II VC PZD for use in APS-C crop sensor DSLRs is a highly condensed zoom lens with 15x magnification. The lens works on the company’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization.
This compact lens is similar to the 28mm to 420mm on APS-C sensors having a 1.5 crop factor, and slightly lengthier on 1.6x sensors from Canon. The Sony-compatible mount is also likely to be available without a stabilization system, as the Sony DSLRs are obtained with an in-camera system.
It weighs 450 g with a length of 88mm from the mount surface to the tip of the lens, and has a diameter of 74.4mm with a filter diameter having 62mm. The self-focusing unit is activated by Tamron's novel PZD (Piezo Drive), which is an ultrasonic motor providing rapid and quieter focusing. The Piezo Drive’s miniature size facilitates a condensed lens size.
The maximum variable aperture of the lens is f/3.5 to f/6.3 and its minimum aperture is in the order of f/22 to f40 with a least focusing distance of 0.49m or 19.3". It shows highest magnification of 1:3.8 at 270mm and is available with a flower-modeled lens hood.
