Pulse Oximetry Sensors for Healthcare

Covidien, developer of healthcare products as well as mechanical ventilation and respiratory care devices, has launched the Infinity MCable with Nellcor OxiMax technology, which comes as an incorporated unit of the Dräger Infinity Acute Care System across Europe.

The system incorporates the portable M540 monitor. The MCable enhances the compact Dräger monitor with two products from Nellcor, the OxiMax specialty pulse oximetry sensors and SatSeconds alarm management technology. This improved portable solution will help physicians optimize patient care and enhance efficiency in hospitals while minimizing the possibility of human error.

The system is networked and incorporates monitoring of patients, therapy, and IT across the complete healthcare system. This is expected to improve security, efficiency, and quality of services. It has the Infinity M540. It follows the patient being moved across the healthcare facility, constantly capturing, showing and storing crucial patient data. When the monitor is returned to the patient’s bedside, it immediately transmits all the data to the Medical Cockpit in the Acute Care System.

The incorporation of the OxiMax into the SatSeconds technology enables generation of smart alarms depending upon seriousness and period of oxygen desaturation.

Clinicians can also use any of the innovative sensors offered by Covidien including the Max-Fast(TM) forehead sensor used for patients with poor perfusion and the SoftCare(TM) non adhesive sensor line for patients with sensitive skin, which work only with Nellcor OxiMax technology. Incorporation of the full range of Nellcor OxiMax pulse oximetry technology into the Dräger Infinity M540 allows all patients, irrespective of age, to be monitored with this system.
