Enhanced Light Sensors for Consumer Products

JDSU has recently introduced its micro lithography or patterning processes for optical coatings that will enhance light sensing in consumer electronic products.

Coatings having the new processes are layered onto optical sensors that sense and adjust in line with ambient light conditions. Applications featuring this sensor include smart phones that feature lighted screens. When the user holds the phone to his ear, the light fades out, and the dashboard displays in vehicles that are able to adjust the light intensity as per outside conditions.

The company’s optical coatings are designed according to 200mm wafers allowing for its application in optoelectronics and imaging industries with space efficient products that have multi-layered functionality incorporated into optical coatings. This process ensures that the entire process becomes cost-efficient as well.
