AeroVironment to Supply Raven UAS Upgrade Kits to US Army

AeroVironment has declared getting an order for $7,800,003 from the U.S. Army on January 25, 2011.

The order is for 919 digital module upgrade kits of the Raven unmanned aircraft systems for the Marine Corps. The kits will let the soldiers use the existing digital Raven UAS with frequency bandwidths other than those provided in the exiting UAS.

The solution weighs 4.2-pounds and can be carried in a backpack. The sensor platform is small enough to be held in the palm of the hand and offers 24-hour video recording for "over the hill" and "around the corner" survey, scrutiny and target tracking. It offers tactical support on missions like camp safety, route inspection, planning and protection. All platforms have three aircrafts, two ground control stations and spare parts.
