Atmel Sets New Standard for Touchscreen Performance

A leader in microcontroller and touch solutions, Atmel Corporation, has announced  the maXTouch E Series of single-chip capacitive touchscreen controllers: mXT224E, mXT768E, mXT540E and mXT384E devices for touch screens from 2 to 12 inches.

The series offers Atmel's advanced AVR architecture optimized for capacitive sensing and improved analog sensing with a third generation capacitive touch engine. Providing 224 to 768 nodes, the new series empowers system designers to select the advanced single-chip solution for their touchscreen application and size.

Atmel maXTouch E Series

As a breakthrough, single-chip 32-bit solution meant for e-book readers, smartphones and tablets up to 12 inches, the maXTouch E Series offers enhanced analog sensing with advancements to maXTouch's industry-leading noise immunity. This allows system designers to use cheaper, unshielded touch sensors or enables them to benefit from thinner touchscreen configurations that allow greater integration. The patterned touch sensor on the display panel or protective cover lens enables “touch-on-cell" or “on-lens” configurations.

With better noise immunity, the devices allow consumers to concurrently use a 2mm passive conductive stylus while continuing to support multi-touch. Like the original maXTouch family, the new generation allows unlimited touches, low power, fast response times, superior sensitivity and greater precision to help detect a user with gloves or a fingernail.

Devices in the maXTouch E Series include the mXT224E, which offers the enhanced E Series touch engine and Atmel's 8-bit AVR architecture; the mXT768E, a 32-bit single-chip touch controller is based on Atmel's low-power 32-bit AVR architecture, which helps meet the increased demand on signal processing required for eliminating unintended touches and sustaining responsiveness on large screens; the mXT540E and mXT384E devices are also based on the advanced 32-bit AVR architecture offer appropriate right price-to-performance selection for their touchscreen designs .

With the advantage of more cost-effective and sleeker touchscreen devices, consumers are also guaranteed better touch performances. Atmel maXTouch solutions are compatible with Linux, Android and Microsoft Windows.
