High Dynamic Camera Sensor Offers Enhanced Surveillance

Melexis has unveiled its MLX75411 Avocet High Dynamic Range image sensor chip that had earlier been developed for applications such as automotive driver assistance and night vision.

It is also suitable for cameras used in security/surveillance, fleet safety, truck blind spot and transportation/heavy vehicle. It is ideal for outdoor applications used across all weather conditions.

The device is a wide-VGA sensor having a 1024x512 pixel resolution and also displays a range of up to 154dB in all frames at a speed of 60fps. This enhances picture quality and security through driver assistance systems. According to Cliff De Locht, product line manager at Melexis, the device helps capture clear pictures of both sunlit and shadowed areas caused when sunlight falls directly on the lens.

It is suitable for both, front and surround view systems in automobiles. It can also spot children behind the vehicle or pedestrians near the headlights of oncoming cars at night. The Glass-BGA package features an optical area that is protected against pollution, moisture and lowers active lens focus costs with the x,y,z and rotation accuracies by construction.
