Sub-Skin Fingerprint Identification Sensors for On-line Healthcare Monitoring

BIO-key International and Lumidigm will jointly offer an identity verification module for e-prescriptions at the Genesis HealthCare System.

The DEA, as well as the state government, has stipulated that all healthcare facilities need to adhere to a two-fold identification system before they can diagnose, monitor and prescribe medication to patients online.

Under the terms of the new contract, Genesis will put into effect fingerprint user logon with Vergence, single sign-on software from Sentillion. This will facilitate healthcare officials to immediately confirm their identity with a light finger touch even through latex gloves. The BIO-key device, used with Lumidigm detectors, is incorporated into electronic medical records software programs, such as Epic and Allscripts Enterprise HER, besides single sign-on providers like Microsoft.

The joint package will help medical professionals to provide a safe and time efficient solution to monitor patients on line. The BIO-key sensor can be used in smart phones, tablets and mobile phones. This product is enhanced by the imaging and Mercury Series multi-spectral fingerprint sensors from Lumidigm. The device will capture the fingerprints from under the skin, so that dry fingers or gloves do not hamper accurate results.

The combined solutions was showcased at the HIMSS11 Exhibition held between February 21 and 23 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
