According to Bill Sundermeier, president of the FLIR Government Systems division, the increased use of unmanned aerial vehicles in defense aircraft is increasing the demand for related sensing devices.
FLIR Systems is a company that develops electro-optical sensing systems specifically targeted at the military and defense sectors.
From January of this year, the company has received purchase orders for around 130 airborne systems to be deployed in various applications and systems across North America, the Asia Pacific region, the Middle East, and pan-Europe. Most of these orders have been for the supply of the UAV sensing devices, specifically for the Cobalt, Star SAFIRE, and TALON categories of airborne systems that use multiple sensors.
Currently, the company has entered into agreements to supply the Cobalt 190 and Star SAFIRE 230HD sensing systems. The solutions are specifically designed to be incorporated into unmanned aerial vehicles for missions such as reconnaissance, surveillance, and targeting.
