Power-Efficient Touch Sensors Reduce Component Count and Cost

Atmel has released a family of QTouch touch sensing devices for button, slider and wheel (BSW) capability on customized devices.

Atmel's AT42QT1070

The AT42QT1070 and AT42QT2120 devices are user friendly, do not need any firmware design, reduce both component count and cost, and are power efficient. It also has a proximity range of 8-inches for new functions included three- dimensional movements to be added.

The devices remove the need for use of peripheral  units and need only one I/O pin for each sensing function. This ensures rapid scan, low current use and immunity to power fluctuations.

They provide a low threshold of entry to incorporate interfaces into home appliances, automotive control panels, TVs, remote controls, set-top boxes and LCD monitors.

The devices support up to 12 channels, 1.8V to 5.5V operating voltage and a communications interface. They also have Adjacent Key Suppression support, self-calibration and auto-drift compensation. They can filter noise, and have optional sleep intervals. The AT42QT1070 supports 7 channels. The AT42QT2120 with 12 channels supports a slider or wheel interface.
