Taiwan-based manufacturer of projected capacitive touch sensor, Cando has planned to commence operations at its second 4.5G factory by the end of Q4 of 2011.
The factory, which is under construction at the Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP), is being built at a total cost of NT$7 billion (US$237 million). The cost includes NT$3.8 billion for equipment and NT$3.2 billion for buildings and land.
The 4.5G factory has the capacity to manufacture 80,000-100,000 units per month. Cando intends to utilize 30% of the capacity to meet the demand for tablet PCs and smartphones.
Cando’s 3.5G plant in northern Taiwan manufactures color filters and the company also intends to produce touch sensors by 2011 end. Cando also has a 4.5G plant with 100,000 unit capacity in northern Taiwan.
Cando anticipates that in Q2 of 2011, revenues for touch sensors will decrease to 10% and 7% for notebook and color filter segments, respectively. Touch sensor revenue proportion for smartphones are expected to increase to 15% to 20% and for tablet PCs to 55% to 60%.
