Libelium declared the release of MeshliumXtreme, a multi-protocol router, which would benefit the world of wireless sensor networks.
MeshliumXtreme has the unique distinction of being able to support 5 wireless standards, namely WiFi, ZigBee, GPRS, Bluetooth and GPS.It supports wireline Ethernet as well. It is also capable of storing sensor data in its database at the same time storing on external Internet servers.Libelium intents to showcase Mehslium along with its Waspmote products at the CTIA Wireless 2011 scheduled from 22 to 24 March in Orlando, Florida, USA.
David Gascon, CTO of Libelium said that MeshliumXtreme provides a totally flexible route to the Internet for operators using ZigBee sensor networks. He claimed that in addition to providing flexibility, MeshliumXtreme facilitates sensing of SMS alarms in real time using the GSM mobile network.
MeshliumXtreme is a modular, wireless, mesh, outdoor router with Linux as the Operating system. Through Linux, users can install any library (java, python etc) or service (apache, mail etc) to meet their application needs. The architecture of Meshlium is modular, which facilitates usage of various combinations of radio modules. There are as many as 10 configurations to choose from and match with their requirements. It is housed in a waterproof aluminium IP67 casing, which gives effective protection from outdoor hazards. Meshlium can be installed on street lights and even in vehicles. The car battery can supply the required power for the router. Power from solar panels can also drive the router.
The Manager System inside the Meshlium does the job of providing a user-friendly interface to all the wireless networks supported by the router and also to the data base storage system. The WiFi radio frequency can be tuned dynamically without any physical intervention as the mesh radio can work at 2.4 GHz (802.11b/g) and 5 Ghz (802.11a).Clients can access the internally stored data as well as the external server data using the WiFi AP radio. While on the Bluetooth network the ‘discover and store’ application enables the Meshlium to store the MAC addresses of users so that their routes can be tracked. In the GPS module real time location is determined by parameters like latitude, longitude and speed.MeshliumXtreme is CE and FCC certified as well and is capable of acting as the gateway for wireless networks implemented by the Waspmote platform.
Waspmote, an award winning platform for Libelium, is a modular platform, upon which wireless sensors are built. This platform is CE, FCC and IC certified. The platform is designed to support many networks and it is built with extremely good power management capability.
Libelium was founded in 2006 and is based in Spain. They work on the design and manufacture of hardware and communication protocols for wireless sensor networks.
