Acuity Brands has been chosen by the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MHPA) to supply LED lighting solutions, which will help in reducing energy and maintenance costs to attain sustainability goals.
An independent agency, the MHPA operates and owns around 5,800 public housing units. It also administers over 4000 Section 8 vouchers, which is a program that offers federal housing aid to economically-backward home owners and renters. The agency also manages two homeownership programs.
In an effort to be more cost-efficient, in 2009 the MPHA started remodeling a 25-storey high rise complex and in 2010, it installed over 125 Lithonia Lighting RTLED lights. The technology is used in stairwells, hallways, kitchens, offices and boiler rooms. Installation of Acuity Brands’ occupancy sensors, Sensor Switch, generates an intelligent controls and lighting solution and results in higher energy efficiency.
A volumetric recessed luminaire of greater quality, the RTLED provides a uniform ambient white light and cuts down maintenance and energy expenditures. The RTLED light is powered by an LED light engine and has a 50,000 h operating life. Its features include a 3500K color temperature, 80+ color rendering and 0 to 10 V DC control.
