The United States Air Force (USAF) has chosen Goodrich for supplying two upgraded Senior Year Electro-Optical Reconnaissance Sensors (SYERS) for use on the U-2 Platform.
These two Sensors will enhance the U-2 platform by adding the multi-spectral imaging feature; which greatly improves the imagery of the platform. Multi-spectral sensors are capable of capturing images at particular frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum. Imagery got through such sensors are useful for threat analysis done on the ground as well as on buildings, as they can pick up changes that cannot be detected by the human eye.
Andrew Chrostowski who is the Vice President of Goodrich’s Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Systems business reiterated that Goodrich will completely support the upgrading operation of the U-2 Platform with more multi-spectral imaging ability through SYERS. The SYERS are manufactured at the Goodrich ISR systems at Chelmsford, Mass.
