American Sensor Technologies Introduces Pressure Sensors for Sub-Sea Level Measurements

Pressure measurements at sub-sea levels are taken by using a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) that contains a pressure port, which can be internally located or exposed to sea water. When the ROV is submerged in the water, sea water exerts pressure on the diaphragm of the pressure port.

The pressure increases proportionally with depth. The depth is estimated by the density of the salt water that creates a connection between pressure and the output signal, which allows measuring the depth of the equipment

Since the depth sensors are present in a corrosive environment, certain mechanical protective measures need to be incorporated in their design. The 4000 series pressure sensors from American Sensor Technologies are made up of 316L stainless-steel wetted parts that are capable of surviving corrosive environments. AST 4000 pressure sensors make use of a wet, pluggable style connector, which isolates all the electronic parts of the sensor from water seepage. The connector is made up of gold contacts and glass reinforced epoxy in order to ensure media compatibility and long life of the device parts.
