austriamicrosystems, a global company that designs, develops and manufactures high performance analog integrated circuits, has introduced the AS5410 3D Hall linear position sensor for measuring distances.
The AS5410 is the first product of the 3D Hall platform and has the capability to sense absolute position in industrial and automotive applications. It is suitable for using in applications to sense the position in dirty, dusty, moist environments and also environments that contain unwanted or stray magnetic fields.
The AS5410 sensor has a special differential architecture. It enables absolute sensing of position of a two-pole magnet. The sensor avoids the necessity for a preceding reference run in the application. The internal EEPROM in the sensor can be programmed to convert different types of geometries such as non-linear scales, tilted chip/magnet geometries and curved movements into a linear type of output signal.
The AS5410 sensor provides a 33 base point internal linearization table for achieving a linearized output with an accuracy of up to 0.5%. Position sensing can also be done on large travel distances with small magnets.
The AS54xx series of encoder products from the 3D Hall platform are being developed to function from a supply of up to 18 V and 150°C. The AS5410 3D Hall sensor solution will be demonstrated at the Sensors Expo & Conference 2011.
