Microsoft Creates New Advertising Model With Xbox Kinect

Microsoft announced at the Cannes International Advertising Festival this week that the Xbox Kinect will come with advertisements soon.

The gaming console will use voice and motion commands to let consumers interact with ads as they play their favourite video game or watch content online. If all goes to plan the new ads would be up as early as 2012 spring.

According to Microsoft the ads on the Xbox will spark creativity as agencies will be given a fresh opportunity to create new types of ads. Once Xbox enters advertising there is a chance that rival Nintendo’s Wii U could also get ads on its 6.2 inch tablet styled screen.

The new type of ads are being called NUAds or natural interface ads and will allow the gamer player to use a set of new advertising tools to access ads from their Xbox Kinect console dashboard. Mark Kronse the general manager of advertising at Microscoft said that the ads on Xbox would create a natural way for the user to engage with the TV.

NUAds also offers some interesting location-based interaction services for advertisers. Greg Sterling, principal analyst at Sterling Market Intelligence said that this represented a great opportunity for agencies and advertisers to generate new kinds of ads and ad creative. They have to rise to the challenge.
