FDA Clearance for Proteus Remote Monitoring System

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) awarded a 510(k) clearance to Proteus Biomedical for marketing the Raisin Personal Health Monitor, its personal health device of wireless nature.

Proteus Raisin Personal Monitor

This wearable, miniaturized device helps to remotely record and analyze body position, physical activity, patient-logged events, and heart rate. This customized physiologic information is then transmitted through Bluetooth to a computerized gadget like the cell phone for emerging applications like mHealth. The monitor is fixed to the skin of a patient with a  layer of adhesive. It can be worn in the same way as a Band-Aid.

Proteus has completed its Series E financing as part of its initiative for manufacturing, developing and commercialization of its intelligent medicine product range. The company raised $25 million from current investors like Medtronic, besides new investors ON Semiconductor and Novartis.

Proteus’ CEO and President Andrew Thompson informed that the clearance for the product is the first step in his company’s overall approach to develop anytime, anywhere, and patient-centric health products. He added that it will change the healthcare process.
