Analog Devices Unveils MEMS iSensor Digital Inclinometer System

Analog Devices (ADI) has released the ADIS16210 MEMS iSensor digital inclinometer system, which offers accurate measurement for roll and pitch angles over a complete orientation range of ±180 degrees.

The device combines the company’s signal processing expertise and iMEMS multi-axis accelerometer technology along with addressable user registers for application programming and tuning across an SPI-Compatible serial interface. These sensors are adjusted to permit precise pitch/roll outputs, which are totally independent from the mounted sensor’s orientation. It makes use of unit-specific factory calibration and thus eliminates complicated and time consuming user calibrations, giving 0.1-degree tilt accuracy.

The ADIS16210 is used in instruments that need highly precise platform stabilization, safety and security monitors and accurate platform steering/positioning such as medical scanners.

Its multi-axis sensing is vital for applications in extreme environments and where motion is experienced on each axis. Every ADIS16210 gets extensive testing and calibration so that a high degree of alignment is obtained across all the 3 axes and also a record tilt measurement precision is obtained across the full motion range, totally free of mounting orientation.

With the help of inclinometer system, digital accelerometer and temperature sensor measurements can also be taken along with configuration controls for sample-rate, in-system calibration, alarms, power management, I/O configuration, and filtering. The system is being offered in a 15x24x15 mm module, along with mounting tabs with M2 sized mounting holes and an edge-terminated connector interface. Its operating temperature ranges from −40 °C to +125 °C.
