Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions (TAOS), a global distributor of digital ambient light sensors (ALS) used in tablets, smartphones and HDTV markets, declared that it has developed the 5th generation of TSL2x72 Series, which offers enhanced ALS technology and proximity detection technology.
This series has been created to achieve the widest dynamic range of operations required for mobile products to acclimatize to different lighting settings. The series includes the TSL2572 digital ambient light sensors; the TSL2772 integrated digital ambient light and proximity detection sensors and the TSL2672 proximity detection sensors.
The TSL2x72 Series improves mobile products with its proximity detection and ALS operations in environments, which have over 60,000 lux (sunlight). This is mainly due to the new programmable gain modes and a reduced gain mode in the device. A programmable register, which permits compensation for optical signal crosstalk, and increased signal-to-noise performance are included in the proximity detection enhancements. An automatic power-down mode after interrupt helps to improve power management by reducing system power consumption. The automatic power-down mode offers a run-once capability.
The TSL2x series, with the TAOS dual diode architecture, would allow the devices to create precise proximity detection and ALS results even while operating behind glass which would spectrally distort, irrespective of lighting sources, such as fluorescent or sunlight, and intensity. This would help improve end-users’ experience, extend battery life and also increase energy efficiency.
Jerry Koontz, who is the Director of Marketing at TAOS, revealed that mobile device vendors are forever working to offer more attractive products, which would include ALS and proximity detection solutions that could operate in various lighting conditions. He mentioned that this new device would establish and extend TAOS leadership position in the market because of its technology and products that support the global green movement.
