Qualtré Inc has raised $10 million from venture capital backers Matrix Partners of Waltham and Pilot House Ventures of Boston. The inertial sensor company based in Marlborough won the funding after its successful demonstration of a silicon MEMS bulk acoustic wave gyroscope.
Stan Reiss, a General Partner with Matrix Partners said that with the tremendous adoption of motion sensing across multiple consumer electronics platforms, the market opportunity is growing exponentially.
The funds raised will be used to help its product development, supply chain and support for sales. The inertial sensors will be produced using its HARPSS MEMS process. This according to Qualtré Inc. will be cheaper and make sensors which are more accurate than ones currently used in devices that need motion control. Some devices which would benefit from the new sensors would be game controllers, Wii remotes, GPS units and smartphones.
Edgar Masri, CEO of Qualtre said that since expanding their engineering team and qualifying their partner network, they had made tremendous progress in the commercialization of their motion sensor technology. They were now providing engineering samples to their lead customers and beginning to show the unique performance attributes of their solid-state sensor design.
