The city of Dayton has collaborated with the University of Dayton’s Institute for the Development and Commercialization of Advanced Sensor Technologies (IDCAST), to encourage companies to generate jobs in sensor technologies. The city has granted $45,000 to the university for this purpose.
Larrell Walters, the Director of IDCAST, stated that the institute would be administrating the funds and award them to companies who are looking to bring their sensor technologies to the market in Dayton, during the next three years. The companies that apply for the grant would need to make available a matching amount of funds, and only those companies whose sensors would help to create jobs and economic value when commercialized would be given preference.
IDCAST, established five years ago, has acquired $90 million in awards for research, created 287 new jobs and $6.2 million for commercialization. It provides the framework for bringing together innovations, technologies and collaborations for both developing and integrating advanced sensor technologies in applications pertaining to homeland security, commercial and defense sectors. It has also helped to create five startup companies in Ohio and lured five more sensor companies into the state.
