Cypress Semiconductor has made an announcement stating that Samsung Electronics has chosen the OvationONS optical navigation system. This would be used in optical track pad modules inside the Android-based Intercept phones, and would help in an easy and intuitive menu and single handed screen navigation.
This system includes an optical finger navigation module along with a processor, sensor and a laser. It uses the OptiCheck technology which is Cypress’ patented speckle-based, 2D comb array technology for determining finger motion and it also provides precise and reliable user navigation interfaces in mobile devices.
The Intercept gives the users a full slider QWERTY keyboard along with a touch screen for speedy and convenient web surfing, messaging, downloads and so on. Features such as Google Maps, Bluetooth, picture messaging, expandable memory are also available. This phone is being offered by Sprint in the U.S.
This sensor provides dependable optical tracking performance suitable for all operating environments and is a superior 2D motion sensor system solution based on Cypress’ PSoC programmable technology. These programmable advantages would help the sensor adjust the tracking performance by itself, depending on conditions such as tracking surfaces, operating temperature and ambient light conditions.
