The Second International Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering or ICST Conference on Arts and Technology will take place from 7 to 9 December 2011 in Esbjerg, Denmark.
As intelligent gadgets and devices evolve with the development of sensors and ambient systems the conference is an ideal place to showcase this progress. Research and arts projects have started to explore the design of intelligent and artistic artefacts in recent years in a larger number than before.
Ambient intelligence supports the vision that technology will become invisible, embedded in natural surroundings, acting autonomously and attuned to user needs. Think of walking into a room and a motion sensor detecting the movement will put on the lights, activate the air conditioning and maybe even welcome you with a verbal message.
It may sound like sheer science fiction but scientists at the conference are already making headway to make this situation a reality. Information environments may in the future be the major drivers of culture. This will eventually lead to the availability of high quality arts and information to any user, anywhere, at any time, with any device. Think of the iPhone as a precursor to what may be possible a decade from now.
The conference is an event which will be a multi-disciplinary conference with attendees coming from the fields of computer science, design, arts, sociology, anthropology, psychology and marketing. So you will have the creators of the technology meeting with people who will actually bring it to the layman very soon.
