The thin film sensing technology supplier, Flexpoint Sensor Systems has shared the status of the industrial sensors being developed by the company. The initial production of the sensors will commence in the fourth quarter of 2011.
The President of Flexpoint, Clark Mower stated that the company is working on several industrial applications based on the patented Bend Sensor technology. Each sensor requires a sensor design unique to the application, thus lengthening the time taken at the development stages. The development process of the innovative sensors also requires redesign and testing phases. Three sensor designs are nearing completion and will enter the initial production stage. Mower also explained that all the sensors have been specifically developed at the clients’ request.
At the end of the lengthy development process for the three sensors, Mower anticipates that the initial production orders will prove beneficial to the company with recurring sales and increasing production volume of the sensors. Flexpoint also expects that they will receive new applications and order from various industries once the sensor products are unveiled in the market and gain acceptance.
One of the two sensors developed by Flexpoint for a particular company is in the final testing stage and once it completes the certification, the second sensor, meant for a different application will enter the testing and certification stage. Shipments containing completed prototype of the sensors have been shipped for final testing, likely for use in a medical or industrial application.
