Intel is developing a tool that would come in handy for firemen. They have combined a PCB, radio, sensors and a battery in a metal sphere which can be closed up and thrown like a ball into a burning building. They call the new gadget a ‘Fireball’.
Intel Fireball Lets You know if its Safe to Enter a Burning Building
The sensory device could be thrown into a burning building to find out if conditions are suitable for sending in a human life. The fire fighter and first responders will get an idea of the environment inside the building without any risk to life or limb. This way they can do a better job of protecting themselves and rescuing victims.
There is no single type of fireball, each has a different set of sensors. These sensors can provide information about carbon monoxide levels, ammonia levels, temperature in real time and relay all this data back to the fire fighter’s smartphone.
The Fireball may reduce the risk to life but they do not have any great protection for themselves. They are not made specifically to survive a fire. They continue to transmit information till they are destroyed. Thankfully they are portable, cheap and disposable.
