Motion processing solutions provider InvenSense has announced that it will be shipping its 6-Axis MPU-6050 motion processor in large volumes to various equipment and design manufacturers specialising in tablets and handsets.
The MPU-6050 was the first 6-axis motion processor to have successfully combined the 3-axis gyroscope and the 3-axis accelerometer in a QFN package measuring 4x4x0.9mm. In addition to this, a digital motion processor comprising a 9-axis MotionFusion has been embedded into the MPU-6050.
The MPU-6050 provides enhanced accuracy and performance as it combines the accelerometer and the gyroscope into the same silicon die. The motion processor has a drive resonance frequency of 30 KHz which filters surrounding vibrations and sounds. The MPU-6050 consumes less than 4 mA of power and the gyroscope noise level is 0.005 dps/ãHz. Since the embedded digital motion processor takes care of the tasks that involve sensor fusion, the motion processor can dedicate its entire bandwidth for its primary tasks.
The MPU-6050 also comes with an additional I2C port which allows equipment and design manufacturers to integrate magnetometers in order to provide a comprehensive 9-axis motion process solution. When coupled with MotionApps software, various mobile phone operating systems and Application Processor platforms can come up with readily available system tests, applications and calibrations by using the MPU-6050.
