Hexagon, a visualization and measurement technology provider has entered into a partnership with Locata. As per the terms of the collaboration, the positioning receivers developed by Hexagon will be integrated with Locata’s positioning technology to create a combined GPS-based Locata positioning receiver. Customers will benefit by gaining access to high-precision positioning through the integrated solution.
The President and CEO of Hexagon, Ola Rollén explained that since access to precise positioning is a vital component for various modem applications, the integrated positioning solution will provide the service even in areas where satellite signals are unreachable, blocked or unreliable. The ground-based positioning locator will be useful in applications for robotics, machine automation, indoor warehousing or mining which are increasingly in satellite-unfriendly areas.
The Locata positioning technology requires deployment of LocataLite transmitters which are ground-based and can function without additional communication, corrections or assistance as in the case of GPS systems. As per the collaboration terms, Hexagon will gain rights to integrate the receiver technology, co-brand Locata Lites and sell LocataLites, gain access to the licenses held by Locata and receive collaborative assistance for the training and knowledge transfer required for support and integration of the technologies. The agreement will also include exclusive rights to the Locata networks for the mining markets.
Hexagon will develop new products by integrating the Locata positioning technology as well as integrate Locata signals into the Glonass-Galileo-Compass GPS positioning receivers. The solution will enable positioning capabilities for military, commercial, industrial, mobile and government applications by providing a local constellation.
